Describe your object?
Wooden heart my dad cut from a scrap piece of wood.

Where is your object from?
Waynesville, NC

How is your object meaningful to you?
My dad is a second-generation carpenter. He cut this heart out for me at work: from a scrap piece of wood around 1996, I was four years old. I painted the heart at my Nana’s house later.
This object is meaningful to me because my dad made it for me. The heart reminds me of him and the freedom of childhood creativity and imagination.

How do you see yourself as an artist in your community?
I enjoy working independently and experiencing art with others.

What is your hope for the future?
Love and understanding.

Un cœur en bois que mon père a découpé d’un vieux morceau de bois.

Comment votre objet a-t-il un sens pour vous?
Mon père est charpentier, comme l’était son père. Il a découpé ce cœur pour moi d’un vieux morceau de bois environ 1996, j’avais 4 ans. J’ai peint le cœur chez ma grand-mère peu après. Cet objet a un sens pour moi parce que mon père l’a fait pour moi. Il me rappelle mon père et la liberté’ de l’imagination et de la créativité’ enfantine.

Comment vous voyez-vous comme artiste dans votre communauté?
J’aime travailler indépendamment et éprouver l’art avec les autres.

Quel est votre espoir pour l’avenir?
L’amour et l’entente
