Two head figurines; made of one continuous block of wood; carved; purchased in NYC between 1960-1967. Depicting a stylized African image; they are about 9” tall.

How is your object meaningful to you?
These figurines are the oldest possessions in my family. They are representative of our embracing of our African ancestry.
How do you see yourself as an artist in your community?
My role is that of documenting this moment in time that I occupy from my personal lens. I charge myself with the responsibility of providing documented evidence that justifies my existence in this moment.
What is your hope for the future?
My hope for the future is a little less fear.
