How is your object meaningful to you?
It was a gift from my paternal grandmother, made by an artisan named K. Palime’. It has a traditional design. Each bead has the name of a town on it. It is a personal souvenir from when I left Togo 5 years ago.
How do you see yourself as an artist in your community?
In Niger, artists are held in low regard. I want to change that image. We are contributing citizens. Even at the University, the students and the professors don’t understand.
What is your hope for the future?
Peace in the world. To make strong ties. To solve problems.
