Columbus, Ohio

Describe your object?
My object is a handmade wooden cross with the phrase “I belong” burned on it. It is attached to a bandana which hangs from my car rearview mirror.

Where is your object from?
Campus ministry retreat at Western Carolina University

How is your object meaningful to you?
This cross was given to me at my campus ministry’s fall retreat my freshman year. My life was changed at this retreat for the better and this cross represents that time and my identity of having a relationship with Jesus Christ.

How do you see yourself as an artist in your community?
As an artist in my community, I am influenced both by the surrounding area and people living here to create art based on experiences, observations, and my hope for change regarding societal issues. Working globally, I have recently geared my creative expression towards art activism & attempt to address and discuss global problems.

What is your hope for the future?
My hope for the future is to use my abilities as an artist to raise awareness regarding a range of societal issues & ultimately help the people in the community I’m a part of.

Décrivez votre objet?
Mon objet est une croix en bois faite à la main avec le mot “ J’appartiens” brule’ sur la surface. Elle est attachée à un petit foulard qui pend du rétroviseur de ma voiture.

Comment votre objet a-t-il un sens pour vous?
Cette croix ma été donnée à la retraite du “ ministère du campus” en automne ma première année à la fac. Ma vie y a été changée pour le mieux et cette croix représente ces moments et mon identité ayant une relation avec Jésus Christ.

Comment vous voyez-vous comme artiste dans votre communauté?
En tant qu’artiste dans ma communauté , je suis influencée par les environs et les gens qui y habitent pour créer de l’art base’ sur mes expériences, mes observations et mon espoir d’un changement au sujet de questions sociales dans le monde. J’ai récemment dirigé’ mon expression créative vers l’activisme artistique et j’essaye d’adresser les problèmes mondiaux.

Quel est votre espoir pour l’avenir?
Mon espoir pour le futur est d’utiliser mon abilite’ en tant qu’artiste pour attirer l’attention aux problèmes de la société’ et pour pouvoir à la fin aider les personnes de la communauté dont je fais partie.
